Elkhorn Ridge RV Resort: Everything You Need To Know

Elkhorn Ridge Resort is located just east of downtown Spearfish, South Dakota, and is in a beautiful part of the state. The green rolling hills as well as the black hills in the background make it a unique destination for people looking for an escape.

The grounds are well-maintained and there are plenty of trees to provide ample shade for the slides and satellite dishes without obstructing them in any way.

The resort has a nice layout with lots of space in between each site and is large enough for your family’s campers. There are also 110 pull-through spaces that make it easy to get around the park without having too much trouble finding an open spot close by.

At the center of the camping area, you will find the office, pool, tennis courts, volleyball court, and horseshoe pits. These locations are at the hub of activity and allow campers to meet with each other every evening. Furthermore, they are all located close to a group fire pit.

There is a large and sprawling lawn area for group activities, even an area set aside for weddings! There are benches placed around the lawn, and an arbor decorated with greenery that has an absolutely stunning backdrop of the black hills.

A large event tent can serve multiple purposes depending on the occasion – it can be used as a venue for a wedding reception or a family reunion in the open air, on grass, or on other similar surfaces.

There are three locations that have cabins set up as a cul-de-sac. This is the perfect layout for families and groups who are traveling together. The group can work together to prepare meals and enjoy spending time together in the evening.

Elkhorn Ridge is a wonderful home base that allows visitors to experience a lot without even leaving the area. In our short time, we crammed everything from hiking, to sightseeing, and even some presidential history into our trip. You can visit Crazy Horse, have an amazing dinner in Custer, and spend the evening with four presidents at Mount Rushmore.

Another day was spent exploring and hiking along Spearfish Canyon. We found Devil’s Hot Tub to be a fun hike and Sturgis is only a short drive away. The bartender at Iron Horse Saloon regaled us with all of her stories from bike week and we were laughing so hard that my sides hurt.

One interesting find was Belle Fouche, South Dakota, the new center of the United States. Alaska and Hawaii became the 49th and 50th states, and as a result, the center of the country moved from Kansas to South Dakota.
