After Claude and Christie sold their grocery store in Custer, they made plans to buy a little building just off Main Street. After living in Iowa for six months and traveling, the couple came back to their hometown with thoughts of starting a new life there.
With gourmet burgers becoming popular, they sensed an opportunity to do what they both loved and also to provide something unique to the community. And so they created Black Hills Burger & Bun Co.
The building only had space for 30 people, and they planned to stay open through the week of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally before closing down for the winter, figuring they would get a lot of business that week.
